Awesome post! It's funny how something so simple gets so complicated. We are completely helpless before God. If you get right down to it we cannot even take our next breath, unless Father gives it to us. Pride and fear try to dictate whether we believe or not. Religion says we have to do SOMETHING or God won't be pleased with us. When we believe the finished work of the cross, then we're able to walk in victory. I have five kids that have all done things in the past that I was not pleased with, but they have never done anything that I would dis-own them for. How much greater love has the Father. It's His love that sent Jesus to the cross, and paid the full price. If we could only believe that God cannot lie and if He said it, it is 100% truth, then the understanding comes. If God said something, it is true, regardless of whether I believe it or not. Could you imagine what would have happened if Jesus would have told someone to "go to hell"; that person would have gone straight to hell without even a chance to repent. Why? Because the spoken word of God is truth. Thankfully Jesus never pronounced that judgement, but instead spoke about the Kingdom of God, and His love. Like you said in the sermon, He even gives us the belief, if we're haveing problems believing God, we can ask Him to help us overcome the doubt and unbelief, and He pours out some more grace, and allows us to believe Him. What an Awesome God !!! Be Blessed
If God even gives an unbeliever the faith to believe, it wouldn't be a free choice would it? I'm just thinking of before i got saved, i wanted to get saved. And then when i did get saved after about one half hour later i sensed His presence and the sense of joy and peace became real. But then again, after about 2 months went by, it seemed my faith withered and i was back to square one. Since i've been listening to your tapes, Sunday Preaching, reading your books, i'm knowing His Truth more and more. I've also had been living all those lies that were engrained in me ever since day one. But now after reading some of those lies you talk about I am being set free more and more each day. Thank you for the truth you shared which has now 'UNSHAKLED' me. Agnes Grace
Hi Steve enjoyed this - one thing I would add is that belief is not a gift but faith is. Faith is the persuasion that comes from hearing the "Word of God" Belief is trust or the resting of the mind on the integrity and veracity of God as it is presented by the logos (God's reasoning and reality).
That is why in my estimation some people will not believe. If we are not fully persuaded of the truth our hearts cannot rest or trust in Him who is the truth.
Because Abraham was fully persuaded he beleived or trusted God. Although we cannot alter the gospel the presentation of it is essential to get the desired result. Paul was very cognizant in what manner he presented it that all men could be persuaded by it
The same thing happened in Iconium: Paul and Barnabas went to the synagogue and spoke in such a way that a great number of Jews and Gentiles became believers. (Act 14:1)
Just some food for thot. Wish I could get Craig's take on that distinction as well
